Abort67 seek police intervention after Sussex university students block pro-life display

Pro-life group Abort67, which works in partnership with Christian Concern, is seeking police intervention after Sussex University students blocked a display by the group exposing the violent reality of what abortion does to the unborn.

“We are trying to persuade the police to facilitate our lawful educational displays in such environments. Typically students try to cover up our signs when we display them,” explained Abort 67’s Andy Stephenson.

He added: “While we welcome counter demonstrations, we believe our rights are being trampled over when the police do not keep those who oppose us at a respectful distance. We’re not asking the police to stop the protesters from expressing their view, but when their actions undermine our rights then we expect the police to step in.

Lawful displays

Mr Stephenson said the group’s displays are simply aimed at making young women aware of the truth about abortion, adding that he would welcome an opportunity for a debate with the students on this issue.

“We took our banners back to Sussex University because the abortion industry deceives these same women about who their baby is and what abortion will do to him or her. Our pictures prove they have been lied to.”

Debate

“I would like to ask the students, and indeed I did, if abortion is such a good idea, why do pictures of it make you so angry? In other words these guys believe abortion to be a human right. Normally when we see human rights being exercised, we are given reason to celebrate. What is it about abortion that its supporters don't want others to see?”

“We would welcome a well-managed debate with students. Unfortunately we are not confident that we will find an opponent to defend such a position.”

Graphic images

"We understand that seeing images of what abortion looks like is extremely distressing but feeling distressed about it is an appropriate response.

"It is definitely not our aim to upset women who have been through the trauma of abortion.  However, we absolutely believe that the life of an unborn person is considerably more important than hurt feelings.”
