British Government spends millions of pounds to fund abortions worldwide

Printer-friendly version

Millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money are being used by the UK Government to fund abortion groups around the world.

A number of global organisations promoting abortion, including International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA) and Marie Stopes International (MSI) are being funded by the British Government’s Department for International Development (DFID).

The precise figures were revealed in response to a parliamentary question posed by David Amess MP. The response of Parliamentary Under Secretary of State Lynne Featherstone revealed:

  • DFID will provide up to £8.6 million to International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) in 2013-14.
  • Marie Stopes International (MSI) will receive up to £4.35 million through a Programme Partnership Arrangement (PPA) for the period 2013-14.
  • The Department for International Development (DFID) provides United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) with £20 million of core funding each year.
  • MSI also received a £79,296 grant through the Civil Society Challenge Fund (CSCF) in 2010-11.

Andrea Williams, Director of Christian Concern, said:

“Many British taxpayers will be shocked to discover how much money the Government contributes to the worldwide abortion industry. The amount of money is quite staggering.

“Abortion takes away a life and often has huge repercussions for the mother. This is not prudent use of Government funds”.
