Call for extension of 'three-parent technique'

Printer-friendly version

Last week's approval in the House of Commons of government proposals for 'three-parent children' has already emboldened one US scientist to call for wider use of the techniques.

Dr Shoukhrat Mitalipov (pictured) has asked the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to approve experimenting with the method in infertility procedures. Speaking after last week's Commons' vote, he said, “we hope it will help in the US, and hopefully the FDA will move faster ... we're very excited by it."
