Doctors warn of assisted suicide dangers

Printer-friendly version

A group of nearly 80 doctors has issued a strong warning over assisted suicide in an open letter to MPs this week.

The doctors said: “We regularly come across patients who feel a burden to their relatives and to society… They are under pressure from within to remove themselves as a burden on their hard-pressed families." They also warned that legalising assisted suicide would give "free rein" to some families who exert "subtle pressures" on sick relatives to die.
