Cohabiting parents four times more likely to split than married parents

A new study has found that unmarried couples are four times more likely to split than married couples, with significant implications for the well-being of children.

Cohabiting couples now account for more than half of all family breakdowns.

Harry Benson of the Marriage Foundation, which conducted the research, said: “We have an epidemic of family breakdown because so few people realise how badly the odds of success are stacked against unmarried cohabitees.”
