Court to consider Civil Partnership challenge

Printer-friendly version

A High Court judge has granted permission for a London couple to challenge the bar on heterosexual couples entering Civil Partnerships.

Currently the Partnerships are only open to same-sex couples. Charles Keidan and Rebecca Steinfeld claim that the government's refusal to 'extend' them to heterosexual couples is discriminatory. But Andrea Williams warns that to do so would only lead to further 'dilution of marriage'.

Watch Andrea Williams on ITV London News respond to an attempt to widen civil partnerships to heterosexual couples.
