Beware the 'intolerance of intolerance'

Printer-friendly version

David Cameron responded to last week's terror attacks by calling on the UK to become "more intolerant of intolerance".

In describing the "Islamist extremist narrative" that needs to be tackled, he quickly moved to point to its belief that "homosexuality is evil". This approach (echoing his eerie claim that "for too long, we have been a passively tolerant society") risks combating one oppressive ideology with another, which punishes dissent from a new sexual ideology.
