Muslim school children double in number

Printer-friendly version

The number of Muslim schoolchildren in England and Wales has almost doubled since 2001, according to a new report. Figures show that in 2011, one in 12 pupils was Muslim.

The overall Muslim population has also grown rapidly over the same period from 1.55 million to 2.7 million - and has a young average age, with nearly half being under 25, census data reveals. The report suggests that the Muslim community could play a significant role in the forthcoming general election.
