Peer calls for national debate on Islam

Printer-friendly version

Former UKIP leader Lord Pearson has called for a national debate on the nature of Islam. Lord Pearson urged the government to "clarify the modern meaning" of Islam, "given the seriousness of our domestic situation".

Dismissing the calls for a national debate, Lord Lamont argued it would be "totally inappropriate for the state to be involved...in a critique of one of the world’s great religions".
