Pensioner and 'sexualities' professor settle assault claim

Printer-friendly version

Retired teacher, David Skinner (pictured) has reached an out of court settlement with Eric Anderson, a Professor of 'Sport, Masculinities and Sexualities' at Winchester University who has previously claimed that the "damage that’s caused by child molestation is socially constructed by the western world".

David made a claim for assault following Mr Anderson's treatment of him after a lecture that Mr Anderson gave at Bournemouth University in 2012.

'Speaking out in Britain today is not easy'

Following the settlement, David commented:

"First, I wish to praise God for being my refuge and strength. Following the events of February 2012, I wanted to bring this matter to court to ensure that justice was done.

"Speaking out in twenty-first century Britain is not an easy thing to do. But I would encourage all those that stand for Biblical truth to continue to speak up, since what is at stake is the soul of our nation and especially the welfare of children. Children and teenagers often become the pawns of destructive ideologies. They are amongst the most vulnerable in our society and need protection.

"I want to thank my legal team, especially my lawyer Michael Phillips and Andrea Minichiello Williams of the Christian Legal Centre who have descended into the pit to fight tooth and nail, in order to pull me from the machinations of the British court system. What incredible champions!"

"Out! Out! Out!"

David attended a lecture given by Mr Anderson at Bournemouth University on 27th February 2012, entitled "Open Lecture: Changing the Game - Gay Athletes then and now".

During the lecture, David became increasingly concerned by Mr Anderson's hostility towards older people and especially Christians, whom Mr Anderson perceived were opposed to his own viewpoint, and by Mr Anderson's use of obscene language.

David was invited to ask a question during the Q&A session that followed the address. When he rose to his feet, he sought to preface his question by raising his concerns about the hostility and obscenity that had featured in Mr Anderson's lecture.

He began, "First I want to object to the obscene language, insults and slander ..."

However, David said that at that point Mr Anderson began to shout "Out! Out! Out!", before leaving the platform, rushing with his arms outstretched towards David and then continuing to shout in David's face, at a very close distance.

David said that he was then forced out of the lecture room by staff and members of the audience, before being subjected to further verbal aggression by Mr Anderson outside.

'Damage of child molestation is socially constructed'

Mr Anderson has attracted controversy as a result of previous comments. Last month, the campaign group, 'Because Children Matter', drew attention to statements made by Mr Anderson to students at Oxford University in 2011.

At that event, Mr Anderson said that the "damage that’s caused by child molestation is socially constructed by the western world".

He also claimed that he has slept with "easily over 1,000 people", saying "I like sex with 16, 17, 18 year old boys particularly, it’s getting harder for me to get them but I'm still finding them… I hope between the age of 43 and the time I die I can have sex with another thousand, that would be awesome, even if I have to buy them, of course, not a problem, you pay for all kinds of entertainment and pleasure."

When it was suggested that he was a sexual predator, he is reported to have agreed and laughed.

Last month, members of 'Because Children Matter', distributed leaflets with these and other statements in the centre of Winchester, saying that "the people of Winchester deserve to know the truth about Prof Anderson's extreme views, given the public profile that he has pursued and the position of trust that he has in the University in educating and influencing students."

The group also wrote to the Vice Chancellor of Winchester University asking for Mr Anderson to be removed from his post.
