Vicky Beeching challenged over same-sex 'marriage' claim

Printer-friendly version

Dr Peter Saunders of the Christian Medical Fellowship has challenged the claim made by singer-songwriter, Vicky Beeching, that her plan to marry a woman does not affect her self-identifying as an evangelical Christian.

Dr Saunders says that whilst it is not unusual today for some Christians to admit to feelings of same-sex attraction, “in short, the Bible teaches that the only moral context for sex is within a life-long monogamous heterosexual marriage relationship”.

Earlier this year, Vicky Beeching became the patron of the group, Accepting Evangelicals, who support same-sex 'marriage', and gave an interview to Christianity magazine about her decision to speak openly about her same-sex attraction last month.

In his blog, Dr Saunders says, “all sexual expression” outside the Biblical context for marriage between a man and a woman “constitutes sexual immorality” and that includes “all sex between two people of the same sex whether legally 'married' or not”.

He explains that he has written the blog in response to Vicky Beeching’s declaration because he’s “convinced that many evangelicals are genuinely not aware of what the Bible actually says”.

“First, the Bible is clear that sexual morality is not a ‘secondary issue’ on which Christians may legitimately disagree and on which there are a variety of acceptable views,” he said.
