Call to introduce 'transgender baptisms'

Printer-friendly version

A vicar has called on the Church of England to introduce a ceremony to welcome those who 'change' gender. Rev Chris Newlands, vicar of Lancaster Priory, made the call after 20-year-old 'Nick' approached him, asking to be 're-baptised' in 'his' new gender.

A special service was held last weekend. Blackburn's Diocesan Synod has passed a motion asking the House of Bishops to consider whether nationally recognised liturgy should be introduced.
