Urgent: Full information about the Sexual Orientation Regulations (SOR) rally outside Parliament and petition of the Queen

Printer-friendly version

2nd January 2007

ALMOST EXACTLY A YEAR AGO THOUSANDS OF CHRISTIANS MADE THE EFFORT TO TRAVEL FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO STAND OUTSIDE PARLIAMENT, UNITED IN PRAYER AND ACTION AGAINST THE RELIGIOUS HATRED BILL. HOURS LATER THE BILL WAS DEFEATED BY 1 SINGLE VOTE.

WHAT BETTER WAY TO START THE NEW YEAR THAN BY STANDING UP BEFORE GOD AND BEFORE MEN TO DEFEND THE FREEDOM TO FOLLOW THE BIBLE IN THIS COUNTRY. IF YOU HAVE NEVER TAKEN A PUBLIC STAND LIKE THIS BEFORE, PLEASE PRAYERFULLY CONSIDER THE IMPORTANCE OF DOING SO NOW.

Summary of information

Happy New Year to all the recipients of our e-mails. We hope that you will begin 2007 by joining us in signing a petition to the Queen (see link below) and attending the rally outside Parliament, to ensure that this is not a year in which legislation makes it illegal to follow the Bible’s teachings.

We appeal to every Christian leader to make information about this known to their constituencies and for every Christian to act and pass on this information.

Links and information

  • PLEASE SIGN OUR PETITION TO THE QUEEN at http://www.christianconcernforournation.co.uk/sorpetition.php. The petition asks the Queen to request that the Government re-think the SORs affecting the whole of the United Kingdom and thereby uphold her coronation pledge which stated that she would 'to the utmost of [her] power maintain the Laws of God and the true profession of the Gospel'.

  • PLEASE JOIN US OUTSIDE PARLIAMENT FOR A TORCH-LIT RALLY ON TUESDAY 9TH JANUARY FROM 5:30-8:00 PM. This is set to coincide with a crucial debate on the SORs which will take place in the House of Lords at around 7:30pm. See below for full directions. We will be meeting in Old Palace Yard, opposite the St Stephen’s (Peers’) entrance. Please bring a torch.

THE NORTHERN IRELAND SORS WHICH ARE BEING DEBATED IN THE HOUSE OF LORDS CAN ONLY BE ANNULED BY PARLIAMENT WITHIN THE NEXT MONTH. THIS IS THEREFORE PROBABLY THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY TO PUBLICLY DEMONSTRATE THE STRENGTH OF CHRISTIAN FEELING ABOUT THE NORTHERN IRELAND SORs AT THE SAME TIME AS CHALLENGING THE GOVERNMENT TO THINK AGAIN ABOUT THE DRAFTING OF THE REGULATIONS FOR ENGLAND, WALES AND SCOTLAND. THAT DRAFTING IS HAPPENING NOW.

Please encourage all Christians to attend this important event.

  • There has already been significant media coverage of the rally. Page 2 of the Daily Telegraph (2nd Jan 2007) carried an article and it is expected that further information on the issue will be published tomorrow (3rd Jan).

The Daily Mail also featured the petition and forthcoming demonstration on page 29 of its 2nd January edition, which can be read online at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=425856 &in_page_id=1770

Details about the rally

Details of how to get to the Houses of Parliament can be found at http://www.parliament.uk/visiting/maps.cfm.

The nearest tube station is Westminster. The rally will take place opposite the Peers’ entrance to Parliament (labelled ‘7’ on the map which can be found on the above website). The precise spot is just across the road from Parliament, in the Old Palace Yard.
