Christian Concern to launch publishing house

Printer-friendly version

Next Monday (7th October) Christian Concern is set to launch ‘Wilberforce Publications’, a new publishing house equipping Christians to “face the challenges of the secular world”.

Authors

Two authors who have recently published books with Wilberforce Publications, lawyer John Scriven and Dr Richard Scott, will be present and available to sign their books.

The event coincides with the release of Wilberforce Publications’ second book, Christians in the Firing Line, written by Christian Legal Centre client Dr Richard Scott.

Dr Scott's motivation for writing the book was to make known the challenges he and other Christians have faced in the workplace for manifesting their faith. In his book he examines thirteen cases of Christians who have been "warned, blacklisted, suspended or dismissed for refusing to compromise their biblical principles".

Wilberforce Publications’ first book, Belief and the Nation, written by lawyer John Scriven, is an application of Christian political philosophy to current concerns such as human rights, equality, education and freedom of expression.

Bishop Michael Nazir-Ali

In the foreword to Christians in the Firing Line, Bishop Nazir-Ali, who will be speaking at the event on Monday stated: “We are made immediately aware of the price to be paid and the cost involved whether it is loss of employment, the threat of being struck off the registers of professional bodies or just unpopularity in the community or the media.

“… In my experience, the exclusion from employment or participation in public life, which the people in these cases have tasted, as well as discrimination because of belief, which they have also experienced, is often the beginning of persecution.”

The new publishing house has grown out of the ‘Wilberforce Academy’ – an annual training course for young Christian graduates and students run by Christian Concern.

The focus of both the Academy and the publishing house is to promote Christian thinking in public affairs in the UK.
