The government is consulting on ways to regulate highly-addictive gambling machines. A key proposal is to reduce the maximum stake on Fixed Odds Betting Terminals (FOBT). The maximum stake is currently £100, allowing people to lose £100 every twenty seconds, or up to £18,000 in one hour.

Britain’s second largest abortion provider has closed its clinic in Belfast, Northern Ireland, meaning that abortions are no longer available in the province outside of NHS hospitals. Bernadette Smyth of the Northern Irish pro-life group Precious Life celebrated the closure of the Marie Stopes International clinic as "a massive prolife victory."

The London Assembly has approved a motion calling for the ban of pro-life pavement counselling and prayer groups from outside abortion clinics. Labour Party Assembly Members Fiona Twycross and Dr Onkar Sahota called on the Mayor to look at existing powers to bar pro-life groups from approaching expectant mothers outside abortion centres.
