Huge increase in single women using IVF

Printer-friendly version

New figures show that the number of single women using in vitro fertilisation (IVF) has more than doubled in the last decade. Experts suggest that the increase is due to women delaying having a family for career reasons and then choosing to conceive by IVF before it's too late, without waiting to get married.

"Children do best with a married mum and dad. Using IVF in this way divorces childbirth from marriage and deprives the child of a father," said Andrea Williams.
