Parents object to promotion of homosexual practice in primary school classes

Printer-friendly version

A gay teacher has resigned from a Birmingham school after parents complained that he was promoting homosexuality  to their children in the classroom.

Andrew Moffatt, an assistant head teacher, is the author of a number of books promoting homosexual lifestyles and his materials are currently being used for teaching primary school pupils.

One book, entitled Challenging Homophobia in Primary Schools, has been used in literacy lessons for children aged 10 and 11.

Commenting on the case on BBC Radio Humberside, Andrea Williams of Christian Concern said:  "Let’s be clear, the parents were not complaining about the teacher being gay, but rather that he was promoting homosexuality in books designed for five-year-olds.  Little children do not need to be made aware of sexuality and gay and lesbian relationships.

"These are thoughts that wouldn't enter into the minds of little children and parents have a right to know what their children are being taught in school.”
