Union calls for urgent Government action following landmark legal victory as Darlington nurse and Christian Concern chief head to Washington DC

Following the nurses’ landmark victory, the Darlington Nursing Union (DNU) has written to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, urging immediate national policy reform after an employment tribunal ruled that forcing female NHS nurses to share changing facilities with a male colleague was unlawful harassment, direct sex discrimination, and a violation of their dignity and safety.

A major cross-party petition has been launched urging Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust to drop disciplinary action against senior nurse Jennifer Melle, who faces dismissal for going to the media about refusing to use the preferred pronouns of a male patient, convicted of child sex offences, who was 'identifying' as female.
